MTCOS Professional EAC used in Czech Republic new electronic passports.

From 1st of April 2009 the Czech Republic introduces as one of the first Schengen member countries the 2nd generation electronic passports with extended access control (EAC). The new ePassports contain the holder personal data, facial image and 2 fingerprints. The passport includes as one of the first worldwide both Active Authentication and EAC.

The Czech Republic Ministry of Interior together with the local state printing company STC (Statni Tiskarna Cenin) decided after extensive testing to use the MaskTech MTCOS Professional EAC high secure chip operating system.

MTCOS chip/OS has been certified according to Common Criteria EAL4+ and tested by accredited European security laboratories, as well as in all recent conformity and interoperability tests organized by ICAO or the Brussel Interoperability Group (BIG). The latest test session was held in Prague in September 2008, organized and hosted by the Czech MOI and industry partners.

MaskTech’s MTCOS Professional was finally selected because the unique quality, the top performance and the full compliance to EAC specification was once again proven.
The chip module is integrated by Trüb AG into the polycarbonate datapage. TRÜB, located in Switzerland, is a leading manufacturer of datapages and identity documents made of fused polycarbonate.

MaskTech contribution to this project includes chip, operating systems, customer specific product adjustments and support. The complete product life cycle including chip, chip operating system, inlay manufacturing, chip/OS initialization, chip/OS pre-personalization and all manufacturing premises have been Common Criteria EAL4+ high certified according to the latest protection profile BSI-PP0026. This process was guided by MaskTech’s common criteria specialists.

Under Common Criteria, products are evaluated against strict standards that validate the product's security, design process, development environment, functionality, vulnerability handling, testing and documentation.
